The latest 2025 Climate Report from the Alaska Climate Research Center has just been released, and the findings are a wake-up call for our coastal communities 📊. Last year officially marked the warmest year for Alaska since 2019, with temperatures averaging 1.5°F above normal despite a record-breaking 33-day deep freeze in Fairbanks ❄️. State Climatologist Martin Stuefer warns that significant sea ice loss is fueling more intense storms, much like the devastating Typhoon Halong that battered Western Alaska this past October 🌊. As warming trends continue to ramp up, the report highlights that coastal erosion and permafrost melt are no longer distant threats but immediate challenges requiring urgent adaptation and relocation for some of our most vulnerable villages 🏠. Understanding these shifting patterns is the first step in protecting our neighbors and preparing for a future with more extreme weather events 🌡️.
